After head coach’s death, Harris County appoints interim leader of baseball team

Harris County High School has appointed an interim leader of its baseball program after head coach Tony Dimitri died Jan. 24 in an ATV accident.

Brandon Jenkins, who has been the head softball coach and an assistant baseball coach at HCHS, will be the interim head baseball coach when the Tigers start their 2026 season at 5:30 p.m. Monday at home against Columbus High School.

“At this time, our priority is allowing our student-athletes to get back on the field and maintain as much normalcy as possible within the baseball program,” HCHS athletic director and assistant principal Jeff Wheeless told the Ledger-Enquirer in an email. “Coach Jenkins, as an assistant coach already with the program, allows this to happen.”

Jenkins will remain the head coach for the HCHS softball team, which plays during the fall season.

“I’m just stepping up and leading this team for the rest of the season,” Jenkins told the L-E in an email. “There has been no talk about next season.”
