Calvary Christian athletic director resigns from position. Here’s what we know.
Calvary Christian School is in the market for a new athletic director.
Ray Honea, who had been the athletic director since July 2016, turned in a letter of resignation to Calvary headmaster Jim Koan II, the Ledger-Enquirer learned Monday night.
“Last week, I received a letter of resignation from (Honea), effective April 1,” Koan said in an email sent to faculty and parents. “I am grateful to Coach Honea for his passion for our students and his faithful service to our school community as middle school football coach and as athletic director.”
Honea has also served as the head middle school football coach since 2012.
Here is the portion of the letter, from Honea, provided in the email:
“In an effort to continue to better serve Calvary student-athletes, the athletic department needs to change its direction. I have enjoyed my time as Calvary’s athletic director. However, I feel it is in the best interests of our student-athletes to step away from this position and possibly fill another role here at Calvary, which will prayerfully allow the type of growth Calvary aspires towards. I do thank God for the opportunity to work with the student-athletes, parents and staff here at Calvary.
“I truly believe Calvary has the potential of filling the gym walls with numerous state championship banners while reflecting Christ on and off the field of competition. I encourage the student-athletes to always give glory to God for their accomplishments as they move forward in their spiritual, academic and athletic goals and growth. “
Honea was not immediately available for comment Monday night.
