Columbus Cottonmouths announce schedule for 2015-16 season

The Columbus Cottonmouths will open their 20th season against one of their longest-running foes, the Huntsville Havoc.

The Snakes will host the Havoc at the Columbus Civic Center on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m.

That is the first of a 56-game schedule the Snakes will play with 28 coming at home and 28 on the road.

The Snakes' first road game will come the next night at the home of the 2015 SPHL champions, the Knoxville Ice Bears.

"We're excited to get back on the ice for our 20th season," Cottonmouths caoch Jerome Bechard said.

"We're looking forward to another great season, and we want all of our fans to come out and support the team all year long.

"We've become a Columbus tradition and hope that we can provide a new experience to our fans as we celebrate this milestone.

One new team joins the SPHL this season, the Macon Mayhem. The franchise was in Augusta, Ga., through the 2013 season.

That brings to nine teams in the league. The others are Peoria, Pensacola, Fayetteville, Louisiana and Mississippi.

The Snakes will play an uneven number of times against each team: Knoxville (four home, five away), Huntsville (four and four), Macon (four and four), Louisiana (four and three), Fayetteville (three and four), Peoria (four and three), Pensacola (three and three) and Mississippi (two and two).
