Andrew Kolb scores in OT to lift Cottonmouths over Havoc

Andrew Kolb scored at 3:16 of overtime to give the Columbus Cottonmouths a 5-4 victory over the Huntsville Havoc in an exhibition game Friday night at the Columbus Civic Center.

Rusty Hafner and Chris Rial picked up the assissts.

Huntsville forced the overtime with a pair of goals in the third period. Jordan Reed scored at 10:38 and John Lidgett scored at 19:20 as the Havoc pulled the goalie for an extra attacker.

Columbus had scored three times in the second period to take a 4-2 lead.

Scoring for Columbus in the second period were Scott Stafford at 12:48 with assists by Tyler henry and Rusty Hafner. Andy Willigar added the second goal at 17:55 on a power play. Shawn Bates and Chris Rial had the assists.

Al Graves scored just 23 seconds later at 18:18 as Columbus was still on the power play. Bates had the assist.

Craig Simchuk scored for the Snakes in the first period.

Brad Denney and Brett Lutes scored for the Havoc.

Shannon Szabados gave made 17 saves in 19 shots as she started and played 30:50. James Robbins finished the final 32;26. he made 12 stops in 14 shots.

Columbus plays another exhibition on Saturday at Macon at 7:30 p.m.

The Snakes open the season on Oct. 23 at home against Huntsville.
