Cottonmouths fall in overtime to RiverKings
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The Columbus Cottonmouths are still searching for their first win of the season after a 3-2 overtime loss at the Mississippi RiverKings on Saturday night.
Reid Campbell scored just 1:01 into the extra period to give the RiverKings the win.
The loss left Columbus with an 0-3-2 record after five games. The Cottonmouths host Macon at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Chris Rial scored for Columbus at 17:36 of the third period to tie Mississippi at 2-2. Andy Bathgate and Louis Belisle had the assists.
Adam Chapman gave Columbus a 1-0 lead at 10:56 of the first period. Craig Simchuck had the assist.
The RiverKings scored two goals in the second period to take the lead in less than 90 seconds. Michael Beaudry scored at 7:13, then Ryan Marcuz scored at 8:36.
Columbus' Shannon Szabados stopped 32 of 35 shots she faced. Minnesota's Peter Di Salvo stopped 29 of 31.
Mississippi (5-1) leads the SPHL with 10 points. Columbus is last with two points.
