KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Columbus got goals from three different players and Shannon Szabados saved 32 of 33 shots on goal Saturday night to lead the Cottonmouths to a 3-1 win over Knoxville.
Tyler Henry got things going early for the Snakes with an unassisted goal at 4:40 of the first period.
The Ice Bears tied the game a 1-1 at 19:43 of the first period when Doug Reid scored unassisted on a power play.
The Snakes regained the lead at 13:16 of the second period when Cody Freeman scored on an assist from Andy Bathgate
Columbus (11-12-6, sixth place) got the final goal as Andy Willigar found the back of an empty net at 19:15 of the third period to make it 3-1.
The Cottonmouths return home next weekend for back-to-back meetings on Friday and Saturday night against the first place Peoria Rivermen. It will be the first meeting between the two teams since their Dec. 19 clash that ended with two players being suspended along with coach Jerome Bechard.
