Knoxville defeats Cottonmouths 2-1
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Andy Bathgate started things off great for the Cottonmouths Friday night against the Knoxville Ice Bears. He scored an unassisted goal at 8:45 of the first period to put the Snakes ahead 1-0.
But Columbus mounted very little offense after that and lost 2-1 to Knoxville while being outshot 37-21.
Knoxville got a goal from Dennis Sicard with an assist from Danny Cesarz at 8:10 of the second period to tie the game 1-1.
The Ice Bears got the winning goal from Cesarz on an assist from Jason Price at 11:18 of the third period.
The Snakes (11-16-6) lost for fourth game in a row and remained in eighth place in the nine-team league. They are just one point ahead of ninth-place Louisiana.
The Cottonmouths return home today to play Pensacola at 7:30 p.m. at the Columbus Civic Center.
