Huntsville edges Columbus in shootout

Huntsville edged Columbus 2-1 on Friday night in a shootout.

Only one of five Columbus players — Tyler Henry — managed to find the net in the shootout. Meanwhile, two Huntsville players scored.

Both of the regulation goals came in the second period.

Kyle McNeil scored at 4:14 for Huntsville.

Chris Rial tied the game at 9:01. Alex Pompeo had the assist.

Brandon Jaeger started in goal for Columbus and stopped 32 of 33 shots.

With theshootout loss, Columbus earned a point and now has 42. But Macon beat Louisiana, so Macon now leads Columbus by three points for the final SPHL playoff berth.

Columbus will host Knoxville on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
