Big second period keys Fayetteville’s win over Columbus
Fayetteville scored four second-period goals and went on to beat the Columbus Cottonmouths 4-2 on Friday night.
Patrick Murphy scored an unassisted goal at 4:02 of the first period to give the Snakes a 1-0 lead.
Nick Lazorko, Josh McQuade and Kyle Gibbons scored consecutive goals for the FireAntz for a 3-1 lead.
Chris Rial scored for Columbus at the 14:10 mark of the second period. Murphy and Cody Freeman had the assists.
Chris Porter scored at 15:45 to close out the scoring.
Brandon Jaeger took the loss in goal for Columbus. He stopped 30 of 34 shots.
Columbus remained four points behind Louisiana for the eighth and final playoff berth in the SPHL.
The Snakes have six games left, while Lousiana has five.
Columbus hosts Knoxville and Louisiana hosts Penscaola on Saturday night.
