Cottonmouths end season with loss to Peoria

The disappointing season for the Columbus Cottonmouths ended late Saturday night with a 5-1 loss to the Peoria Rivermen in Peoria, Ill.

Peoria scored twice in the first period and twice in the second to take a 4-0 lead.

Rusty Hafner scores the Snakes’ lone goal at 9:08 of the third period. Ben O’Quinn earned the assist.

Andrew Loewen took the loss as he stopped 29 of 34 shots.

Columbus finished the season ninth in the nine-team SPHL with 46 points (19-29-8).

The SPHL playoffs start this week without the Cottonmouths for the first time in league history, which dates back to 2005.
