Recruiting Roundup: Central football covered in camps, offers
The first weeks of June have not only featured several prominent colleges holding football camps but also several schools offering scholarships. There’s also been developments in other sports, including baseball and basketball.
Football
Central wide receiver Justyn Ross, considered the top receiver in Alabama, has stayed busy so far this summer, having taken recent visits to Alabama and Auburn for the Tigers’ Big Cat Weekend. He also attended the Crimson Tide’s football camp in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on June 4.
The four-star wide receiver has narrowed his choices down to 11 schools -- which includes Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and Florida State -- on April 28th but has not said when he will narrow his options further.
Central sophomore wide receiver Eddie Williams, who many believe will be the next standout Red Devils receiver after Ross, may have turned some heads in Tuscaloosa as well. He participated in a camp at Alabama on June 4, as did Central junior quarterback Peter Parrish.
Central senior wide receiver Drake Holloway participated in Georgia State’s camp on June 4. He went to a camp at Troy on Monday, and on Wednesday, he participated in a camp at UT-Chattanooga.
Central’s Jahlil Ryles added his eighth offer on June 2 when Troy joined his list of options. Ryles is considered a two-star offensive guard by Rivals and has offers from schools such as UConn, Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee.
Central senior defensive back Marvin Woods Jr. has scholarship offers from Austin Peay and Uniontown. He is set to visit East Carolina and has previously visited Western Kentucky. He also holds camp invites to Western Kentucky and Troy.
Central senior defensive back Latavius Calhoun and senior offensive lineman Kinnes Dixon visited Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., on June 2.
Glenwood senior Cameron O’Neil has continued to rake in scholarship offers. O’Neil picked up another big one on June 6 with Wisconsin adding its name to the list. O’Neil has offers from several other FBS programs, such as Illinois, Virginia, Pitt and Memphis.
Carver senior quarterback Xaiyr Jacobs participated in a camp at Tennessee State on June 4.
Smiths Station senior defensive end Deondrae Williams picked up his fourth offer on June 4, this one from Richmond. Williams, a two-star per Rivals, also has offers from Troy, Navy and The Citadel.
Smiths Station defensive lineman Kelcy Allen picked up his third offer on June 5 when Kennesaw State came calling. He also has offers from The Citadel and Jacksonville State.
Kendrick running back Kayleem Bonds picked up an offer from Albion College in Albion, Mich. Bonds also has offers from Shorter University and Eastern Kentucky.
Northside’s Trey Giles signed to play football at Mars Hill University in Mars Hill, N.C. in a ceremony at Northside Thursday. Giles played wide receiver and cornerback in his time as a Patriot.
Baseball
A trio of Harris County baseball players have signed. Jordan Griffin has signed to Carson-Newman in Jefferson City, Tenn., Brett Griffin will play at Point University and Justin Brooks is going to South Georgia State College.
Senior Glenwood baseball player Tyler Keefe has signed to play baseball at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus. In his senior season, Keefe appeared in 25 games for the Gators, hitting .206 with one home run and 6 RBIs. He also pitched in 14 games, throwing 22.1 innings and going 2-0 with a pair of saves.
Boys Basketball
Senior Manchester guard Jah’Nile Hill has gotten his fair share of basketball camp opportunities. At this point, he’s received camp invites from at least six colleges, including Georgia Southern, South Alabama and Tennessee Tech.
