Mediterranean-style restaurant coming soon to north Columbus

A restaurant that serves Mediterranean-style food to include pita bread, hummus, wraps, gyros, falafel, platters and salads is bound for north Columbus.

Pita Mediterranean Street Food, which has locations in the Atlanta area, will be locating at 6600 Whittlesey Blvd., in the Columbus Park Crossing area. The 1,800-square-foot eatery will be a tenant in a “lifestyle center” anchored by West Georgia Eye Care Center’s Lasik practice. A dermatologist is part of the complex as well.

“It’s going to be gyros and wraps and they make their own fresh pita bread. I had the pleasure of going up to Kennesaw to check out one of their newer locations up there,” Jack Hayes, a broker with KW Commercial in Columbus, said of the restaurant. His company marketing the property. “The food is fresh and it’s really good.”

Hayes said Pita Mediterranean Street Food is preparing to begin work on the space it will occupy, with that taking eight to 10 weeks to complete. That means hungry customers should be eating there sometime in February, he said.

The center encompasses nearly 24,000 square feet of space overall in two structures, with West Georgia Eye Care in a 16,600-square-foot building. The Mediterranean restaurant is a tenant in a separate building that has 7,200 square feet altogether. The location is adjacent to a Homewood Suites hotel and across from the Acura and BMW dealerships.

Hayes said the intent is to have tenants related to medical, health and fitness at the center in general, along with a couple of eating spots. Aside from the Mediteranean restaurant, he’s also looking at bringing in a dessert business, such as a frozen yogurt shop.

“With West Georgia Eye Care there and the patients that they have, we want to be sensitive to make sure we have adequate parking for our tenants and everyone else there.”
