Murder suspect arrested on scene of Phenix City shooting
A 21-year-old man was charged with murder early Tuesday in a Phenix City shooting on 11th Avenue, officials said.
Michael D. Prather Jr. was arrested on the scene of the shooting that left 37-year-old Muhammad Williams dead. He was booked into the Russell County Jail.
Officers were called to the 1500 block of 11th Avenue at 12:06 a.m. Tuesday to investigate the shooting. They found Williams with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
Williams’ death is the second homicide in Phenix City. It comes less than a week after 19-year-old Montravious Hartman was killed in a Feb. 7 shooting in the 1000 block of Fourth Street.
