‘There were plenty of witnesses.’ Police looking for answers in deadly Easter shooting at club
Columbus police detectives were working Monday trying to solve an Easter morning homicide at a private nightclub on Andrews Road.
Police were called to 480 Andrews Road at 3:56 a.m. Sunday in reference to shots being fired. Upon arrival, they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds. The men were transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center by ambulance.
Alec Spencer, 24, of Columbus was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 4:46 a.m., said Muscogee County Chief Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley. His body will be sent to Atlanta for an autopsy.
The other victim was listed in unsatisfactory condition Monday morning, said Jessica Word Roberts, the hospital’s spokeswoman.
While the officers were in the emergency room on Sunday, they learned Darrell Boggans, who was shot at the nightclub, was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle. Roberts said Monday she had no information on his condition.
An investigation revealed that an argument inside of the nightclub resulted in shots being fired. The situation escalated out into the parking lot and street where more shots were fired, police said.
Police are urging anyone with any information to come forward, Columbus police Maj. J.D. Hawk said.
“There were plenty of witnesses to this and we need people to come to us with any information or videos that they may have,” Hawk said. “We have talked to a lot of people but there are still a lot of people who aren’t talking.”
It’s unclear how many people witnessed the triple shooting outside the Nightlife club on Andrews Road, which is in between Cusseta and Buena Vista roads in south Columbus.
The club’s parking lot was still an active crime scene Monday morning and a Columbus police patrol unit was on the scene. Yellow tape was still up.
One detective was working inside the building shortly after 10 a.m.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. A. Locey at 706-225-4291 or email him at anthonylocey@columbusga.org.
The building once served as the clubhouse for the Outcast Georgia Motorcycle Club. They vacated it several years ago for a location in Alabama. The property at 480 Andrews Road is owned by Diverse Mechanical Inc., a metal fabrication shop that operates on the adjacent property at 466 Andrews Road, city tax records show.
Owners of Diverse Mechanical declined to comment Monday afternoon.
