New Tex-Mex restaurant option in Columbus is offering free burritos for a year

Georgia restaurant chain Surcheros Fresh Mex will open its first Columbus-area location in Midland this week.

Local franchise owner David Harris of SureChick LLC and Surcheros director of operations Dell Fort plan to open the restaurant Nov. 13 at 6516 Kitten Lake Drive in Unit E6, formerly a Moe’s Southwest Grill location.

SureChick has operated in the Columbus restaurant industry for over 20 years now, Fort told the Ledger-Enquirer, with Fort having been with the team for over 15 years. The organization operates two Chicken Salad Chick locations in Columbus and one in Phenix City, along with other restaurants in Florida and Kentucky.

“A lot of what we’ve chosen to do is stuff that is more family-oriented,” Fort said. “We want to engage our team members and our employees to be family-oriented, and this (Surcheros) brand is just that.”

Luke Christian founded Surcheros in Douglas, Georgia, in 2007, Fort said. The name is derived from a combination of the Spanish words for “Southern” and “friends,” spokesperson Maria Pereda told the Ledger-Enquirer. It’s a “build-your-own” concept offering burritos, burrito bowls, quesadillas and nachos.

Customers can choose their rice, beans, proteins and fresh vegetables, he said.

“I suggest you saute all of your vegetables,” Fort said. “It gives more flavor to your meal. That’s what I love about this brand.”

The freshness and flavor, and the ability to sauté vegetables on the griddle, are what set Surcheros apart from other similar restaurants, he said.

“We use a Southwest vinaigrette,” Fort said. “And the flavor is there. I think that’s what everybody would enjoy, is that flavor and the flavor of the sauces.”

SureChick chose the Surcheros location after experiencing success with their nearby Chicken Salad Chick location, Fort said.

“This area out here is growing,” he said.

There are plans to open more Surcheros locations in the Columbus and Phenix City area, Fort said.

How to get free burritos for a year at Surcheros

Surcheros is scheduled to open at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 13. The first 100 customers will get free burritos for a year, Fort said.

“That’s 52 burritos,” he said. “That’s a burrito every week.”

Fort hopes customers enjoy a welcoming atmosphere when they enter Surcheros.

“We’re excited to give this opportunity for Surcheros to be here in Columbus,” Fort said. “And we look forward to serving all the guests here in Columbus.”
