New tenant prepares to open restaurant in this Columbus building

A new tenant has moved into the former Barberitos location at 1012 Broadway in Columbus.

Signage for Tacos El Paisa’s first restaurant is on the building. Tacos El Paisa has been a food truck based out of 1649 Elvan Ave.

The restaurant will serve Mexican dishes like tacos, tamales and quesadillas, as well as some fast-food options like cheese fries and chicken tenders, according to the menu posted outside. An opening date had not been announced as of publication.

What happened to this Barberitos location?

Barberitos, based in Athens, Georgia, lists 41 locations in seven states. Its location in downtown Columbus has closed and was removed from the locations list on the company’s website.

The local franchisee and a company official did not respond to the Ledger-Enquirer’s request for comment when the L-E reported this news in March.

The only other Barberitos location in Columbus, 5592 Whitesville Road, remains open.
