Legacy family construction group sells assets to form new company in Columbus
The Flournoy construction company was recently acquired by another multifamily construction development company.
In a press release sent to the Ledger-Enquirer, Batson-Cook Construction announced it has acquired Flournoy Construction Group, a subsidiary construction company of Flournoy Companies, a multi-family real estate company based in Columbus.
In this deal, Flournoy Construction Group has been rebranded as Baston-Cook Flournoy Construction, LLC. It also continues to operate independently in Columbus.
The price of the acquisition is confidential, according to Allen Westmoreland, senior vice president of risk management at Batson-Cook Construction. The acquisition process took about five months to complete, Westmoreland said.
Darrin Appleton, Baston-Cook’s Construction’s senior vice president and general manager, will oversee the operations at Baston-Cook Flournoy Construction.
“Our expertise and passion in wood frame construction, combined with Flournoy Construction Group’s impressive body of work, will be a great benefit to clients,” Appleton said in the press release. “We look forward to delivering a variety of projects for our customers throughout the southeast.”
The new organization began operations on August 4.
Background of the two companies
Batson-Cook Construction was founded in 1915 and builds a wide range of commercial projects for healthcare, multi-family, office, education, and private development clients throughout the Southeastern United States.
Flournoy Construction Group was created in 1967 and has ties to multifamily, affordable, and senior housing projects across the southeastern United States, according to their website. The company was sold in 2018 to the U.S. branch of Kajima Corporation, an engineering and construction consulting firm based in Japan. Kajima USA remains the parent company of Baston-Cook Flournoy Construction.
No staffing changes have been made, according to the press release. The company employs about 45 people, according to Westmoreland.
