All Muscogee County District schools will be closed starting Monday until April 5 due to the coronavirus, or COVID-19, pandemic, according to a release from the district.

The decision comes after Governor Brian Kemp declared a public health emergency in a Saturday morning press conference. As of March 14, there are 64 cases of Novel Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19 in the state of Georgia.

Schools throughout the county will resume on Monday, April 6. Muscogee County joins other local area school districts that have canceled classes and other activities as a result of the outbreak.

Students were sent home on Friday with various digital and print materials, according to a release sent by Mercedes Parham, director of communications for MCSD.

Administrators will report to their respective schools Monday. During this time, parents and students can receive printed packets and other resources to prepare for the closure. Instructions about student submission of work will be distributed on a school by school basis.

Meal availability for students while schools are closed is also currently in the works, Parham said.

As of March 14, there are no known cases of COVID-19 throughout the Chattahoochee Valley. For more information on COVID-19, visit the CDC’s website.
