Owners of a group of popular downtown Columbus restaurants have announced they will be closing their doors through April 1 due to concerns about COVID-19.

The Loft, saltcellar. and Mabella’s Italian Steakhouse will all be closed beginning Wednesday, according to a Facebook post.

“This has been a difficult decision, but the health and safety of our team members and guests continues to be our highest priority,” the post said. “Closing is our civic duty. We will continue to evaluate this rapidly evolving situation and follow recommendations from local health authorities on a timeline for reopening.”

The post was signed by restaurant owners Tom Jones and Buddy Nelms.

The decision comes days after local restaurants started closing their dining rooms to customers and offering curbside pick up and delivery as the new coronoavirus pandemic spreads across the United States and in Georgia.

There were nearly 200 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Georgia and three confirmed deaths related to the outbreak, officials said on Wednesday.
