Family devastated after hearing continued in deadly Fourth Avenue shooting

The family of the man killed in Tuesday’s Fourth Avenue shooting is devastated after the preliminary hearing for the suspect was continued until next week.

“I'm just ready to get it over with,” said Shakeyla Harris, the victim’s sister. “I know it's not going to be over with after this court date comes up, but we wanted some answers today.”

Brandon Senior, 31, appeared in Columbus Recorder’s Court Thursday morning to face multiple charges related to the shooting of 33-year-old Tamir Harris, including murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The hearing was continued until 9 a.m. Tuesday to allow Senior’s family more time to hire an attorney to represent him.

It’s been two days since authorities found Tamir Harris suffering from a gunshot wound around 10:35 a.m. Tuesday in the 3600 block of Fourth Avenue. He was pronounced dead on the scene about 30 minutes later, officials said.

Senior was taken into custody later that afternoon. He was apprehended after a standoff at an apartment in the 3200 block of Fourth Avenue.

Brittany Moody, the pregnant mother of four of the victim’s children, was trembling with tears in her eyes Wednesday afternoon as she described the moment Tamir Harris was killed in front of three of his 12 children.

She said Harris was standing outside of a car speaking with her mother Tuesday morning as his 2-year-old stood by his side. She said she sat in the backseat of the car with her 1-year-old daughter.

Harris’ friend sat in another car with Harris’ 11-month-old baby, according to Moody’s account of the incident.

She said that’s when a man she didn’t know walked up to Harris, put a gun to his head and shot him. She said he aimed the weapon at her and her family when she tried to get the young boy to safety.

“He walked off like he didn’t give a d--n,” Moody said as she struggled to hold back tears. “The way he looked at my baby daddy when he shot him, I couldn’t believe it.”
