Police arrest man, charge him with murder in shooting death at Columbus hotel

A suspect has been arrested and charged with murder in a shooting death at a Columbus hotel.

Ricky Daniels, 23, also was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in the death of Xavier Igus, 31, the Columbus Police Department announced Wednesday.

Daniels is scheduled to appear Friday in Columbus Recorder’s Court at 8 a.m.

On Sunday, at 7:19 p.m., police responded to a call in reference to a shooting at the Budgetel Inn & Suites at 3170 Victory Drive. There, officers found a man, later identified as Igus, suffering from a gunshot wound, according to CPD.

EMS arrived at the scene and transported Igus to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where an emergency room doctor pronounced him dead at 8:04 p.m., police said.
