Warrants issued for teen charged with threats against 8 Columbus schools

Warrants have been issued for the arrest of a suspect charged with making terroristic threats against eight Columbus schools.

Muscogee County School District police identified the suspect as Maliek Brooks, 18, who isn’t a student in the district, MCSD communications director Kimberly Wright told the Ledger-Enquirer in an email Wednesday.

Brooks is charged with making terroristic threats on social media against the following schools last week:

  • Midland Middle School
  • East Columbus Magnet Academy
  • Rothschild Middle School
  • Fort Middle School
  • Baker Middle School
  • Shaw High School
  • Eddy Middle School
  • Double Churches Middle School

“Officers are continuing to follow up on all leads and complete the remaining steps of the investigation,” Wright said. “At this time, no additional information is available.”

Although police determined the threats to not be credible, MCSD said in its Nov. 12 news release, extra police presence was deployed at those schools the following day “out of an abundance of caution” and “to ensure the safety and security of our students and staff.” No security incidents were reported at those schools that day.
